How To Stay Safe In The Adult Industry Including On OnlyFans & Similar Platforms

How to stay safe on OnlyFans or similar sites is one of the more important issues facing every content creator today. Not only are there scammers in every corner of the internet, including in the adult content community – but creators must also take steps to protect themselves in the event that they come in contact with an internet creep!

In this article, we will outline some of the best practices to keep your money safe, to stop your friends or family from finding your OnlyFans page, and some of the best ways to stop scammers on OnlyFans and other sites like it.

How to hide your identity on OnlyFans

For whatever reason, you might wish to keep your identity a secret if you are producing adult content, maybe because of your job, or maybe because you just don’t want friends, family, or your local community knowing about it.

It’s worth noting that sometimes it isn’t easy to keep your identity a secret, and many creators have been found in the past by loved ones despite their best efforts to keep it hidden, so no matter what precautions you take, if being found out will ruin your life… you should probably re-consider your decision to sign up.

If you want to sell content online but be ultra safe to protect your identity, the best option is to keep your face hidden in your photos and videos. This can work, depending on the type of content you produce, but of course hiding your face will limit the type of content that you can produce, and in some cases it might put off some buyers who like to see faces in the content that they subscribe to.

Another obvious, but sometimes important action to take to hide your identity on OnlyFans is to give yourself a stage name… one that is NOT a resemblance to your real name!

Many creators choose a name similar to their own with just a slight difference, but why take that risk? If your name is Sarah Johnson, call yourself Sophie Anderson, or Luciana BigTits, or anything! There’s no reason to have a name similar to your own, and you can simply adopt an alter-ego for all things to do with your premium content.

Likewise, you can also take steps to shield your location in your OnlyFans bio and in your content itself. Granted, some buyers might look for local girls when they are looking to subscribe, but if you do want to advertise yourself in your own area, you can at least be vague about it. If you’re from New York City, just say New York – you don’t need to be specific and say which borough. If you want to be super safe though, you can always just choose another city.

When you’re creating content, be wary not to include any personal information in your shots, and also sure not to give away your exact location in your content. For example, if you live in an apartment overlooking the Eiffel Tower, or on a recognisable street in your town, don’t include shots of these recognisable features in your content. If someone from your area recognises your street, they could potentially know how to locate you. There’s no need to take that risk, even if it’s a tiny one.

Use a different email address to sign up!

You know how all these big tech firms seem to know what sites you’ve visited, who your friends are, and what colour underwear you’re wearing? Yeah, well that’s because they use internet cookies and all sorts of high-tech tracking mumbo jumbo that ‘enhances your experience’.

We’ve probably all been in the situation where an app or site suggests people to us who we know, and we aren’t quite sure how it knows that we know them! Usually, it’s through email contacts, phone contacts, or computer tracking cookies.

It’s easy to create a new email address at Gmail or another big provider in just a couple of minutes. Create a new one just for your adult content business, and use this and only this in everything to do with your OnlyFans / AdmireMe account, and all associated social media pages.

If you can, it’s also ideal to have another phone / separate laptop for accessing all things related to your premium content, and keep your personal life on a different device. If this isn’t possible, at least get a different SIM card for inputting your number to your adult accounts, and use a private browser and VPN connection such as NordVPN when using your adult accounts.

Use separate social media accounts!

Talking of separating your personal life from your OnlyFans profile (or AdmireMe, Premium Snap etc – whatever you’re using), MAKE SURE YOU CREATE SEPARATE SOCIAL MEDIA PROFILES FOR YOUR ADULT CONTENT!

If you want to stop friends and family from finding out about your OnlyFans page, you definitely don’t want to have any content, links, or any connection to your adult pages on your personal pages.

Not only does this mean creating whole new accounts especially for your premium content, but it means doing it via the methods mentioned above if you can – using a different email address, phone number, and ideally; a different device. Once you’ve created these profiles, go through the profile settings to make sure there are no associated accounts etc which may form a link to your original, personal pages.

It would be wise to then set your personal profiles to private too, so that if someone does come across your personal Instagram page for example, even by accident, at least they won’t be able to see your pictures and put 2 and 2 together to realise that they recognise you from OnlyFans!

How to stop your OnlyFans account from being hacked

It might sound like basic internet security protocol, but use a very secure password that is unique to your account… and if you have multiple adult accounts such as an OnlyFans and an AdmireMe page, have unique passwords for each. This also applies to your related social media accounts – have unique passwords for each so that if one does get hacked, at least you minimise the damage and stop them from getting the access details for everything!

USE TWO-FACTOR AUTHENTICATION

We cannot stress this enough… if you want to keep your OnlyFans account and all adult platforms safe from hackers then use 2FA (Two Factor Authentication) on each… including your associated email account.

This is basic internet security for everyone in 2021, however it’s amazing how many people don’t use it. OnlyFans, AdmireMe, Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, TikTok, Gmail… all of these allow you to enable 2FA, simply follow the instructions in the security settings of each one, and get them ALL set up. It might take you 30 minutes to do it for them all, but it’s worth it!

What does 2FA do to help keep your OnlyFans account secure? Well what 2FA does is force you to provide a PIN number once you’ve successfully entered a username and password. The easiest way to do this is to use the Google Authenticator app on your phone, and every 30 seconds it refreshes to give you a new PIN for all associated accounts. You input this PIN on the sign-in page and as long as it matches… you’re in. You’ll find it straightforward to set up once you follow the instructions each site/app gives you.

Never, ever, EVER, give out your private information or bank details to a buyer

If you are using a platform like OnlyFans or AdmireMe, there is no need to give out your private info to a buyer, whether that’s name, location, bank info, or anything. Buyers can make any payment they need to using the site, and attempts to negotiate payments etc off the site should be treated with caution.

Is it safe to attach a bank account to your OnlyFans profile?

Yes, no one can identify you from your bank account being associated with your OnlyFans page… your employer won’t be informed if you’re working another job alongside your content creation career. It is worth noting though, that depending on where you are located, you will probably have to pay tax on your OnlyFans earnings, and as a result, it’s possible that your employer might be aware that you’ve declared ‘x’ amount of additional income if they can see your tax contributions.

Don’t worry though, if this happens just play it cool and say you did some freelance work, ran a tiny side gig, did a job for a friend… or won some money gambling. Just have a reasonable answer in mind in the event that they ask and there should be no reason to mention OnlyFans, AdmireMe, webcamming, or anything else that you’re looking to keep a secret!

And last, but definitely not least:

Don’t meet up in-person with any fans!

Again it is something that might seem obvious, but many fans will try to tempt creators into doing meetups, sometimes offering substantial sums of cash!

Now as tempting as it might be, remember that this is dangerous and OnlyFans, AdmireMe, or social media accounts etc cannot protect you once you are off their platforms and meeting in person.

The fan might not be who they say they are, or they might have different intentions for the meetup than what they say in your DMs! Just be safe, and use common sense… the money just sometimes isn’t worth the risk.

Stick to selling your content online from the safety of your phone or laptop!
