Are Instagram Banning Adult Creators? Can I Advertise My OnlyFans On There?

Can you put your OnlyFans link on your Instagram page?

You might have read some articles or heard some grumblings on social media about Instagram banning adult content creators in recent months – predominantly since they updated their terms and conditions in late 2020. So is this true? Is Instagram banning porn stars or other adult creators?

Well, the answer is kind of a ‘Yes’, kind of a ‘No’, and kind of a ‘Hmmm, well it depends. Maybe.”

Since Instagram updated their terms of use, they have tightened up their policy to be more in line with Facebook’s, in the sense that they have added more rules around nudity and sexual solicitation. Now, even “commonly sexual emojis” and “regional sexualised slang” cannot be used to ask for or offer nude images, sexual content, or sex chat. This could mean goodbye to your favourite fruit and vegetables or splashing water emojis when it comes to promoting your OnlyFans or AdmireMe page on Instagram!

There have in recent months been tens of thousands of adult content creators who have claimed to have been kicked off the platform, or have been shadow banned (meaning that their content doesn’t show up on users’ feeds), however, if you go on there now, you’ll see plenty of sexually suggestive content and plenty of models advertising their content on an array of platforms such as OnlyFans.

So how can I advertise my OnlyFans / adult content on Instagram without getting banned then?

Whilst it would seem that there is a large element of inconsistency in terms of who gets banned and who doesn’t, there are definitely a bunch of tips and tricks that you can follow to help stop Instagram from banning your OnlyFans link.

1. It might seem obvious, but don’t post nudity as that is strictly forbidden, and don’t post anything that very close to nudity e.g. naked breasts with emojis covering the nipples! Whilst you might see other models doing this, this type of content is balancing right on the edge, and might get you banned further down the line.

2. Don’t put your OnlyFans link in your bio. When asked by Mashable if they remove accounts that link to OnlyFans, an Instagram spokesperson said that they don’t unless “those links are shared alongside content attempting to share or offer sexual materials, or coordinate sexual encounters between adults.”

It’s hard to interpret exactly what to make of this, so to be sure, most models in 2021 are linking from their bios only to a link-hosting landing pages such as AllMyLinks, LinkTree, or others. From there you can display all of your links including other social media pages and of course, your OnlyFans / AdmireMe / whatever, without directly linking to your adult content from Instagram.

3. And this is a special bonus tip that is extra safe and yet still super effective – create a backup account where you post your raunchier content.

One tactic that is getting deployed by OnlyFans girls in 2021 to avoid getting banned by Instagram, is to run 2 accounts on on the platform. One that is completely safe, and the other that is a ‘backup’ account and contains your more risky content. Let’s explain this in more detail:

Main Account – this could be a more normal-looking IG feed, containing minimal overly sexualised content… think a few bikinis and sexy poses, but nothing too naughty. Then in your bio, you can say things like…

“21, UK model and content creator.
Follow my backup account @xxxxxxxx”

This gives people an idea that you probably have an OnlyFans account, without actually linking to one. Then, when you post a sexy (but not toooo sexy) photo, place something in the caption like “check out my backup account @xxxxxxxx and give it a follow!”

Which then leads us on to your backup account…

The Backup Account – This is the account that you run to direct people to for your sexier content. On here, you can paste your AllMyLinks / LinkTree link into the bio and get a little saucier with your photos. Of course, you still need to adhere to the rules, however you can take a few more risks with things like lingerie and some more under-boob, for example!

You can also run stories from here that have a swipe up link to your link hosting page, providing that you have 10k followers or more (as that is the minimum followers needed to run story swipe up links).

In the bio for this account, maybe you can through in a devil emoji, and be a little more suggestive than in your primary account.

So why do it this way?

Well your backup account when doing this method is the one that will be deleted by Instagram if they deem that you have stepped over the line. By doing it this way, you preserve your main account so that if you do get your riskier, backup account banned, you can start a new one and direct people over to it from your main account again.

Whilst still annoying to get banned, at least this way it’s not the end of the world and you still have a connection to many of your old followers through your main account. No one wants to start off at zero again.
