OnlyFans Reverses It’s Decision To Ban Adult Content After Creator Backlash

OnlyFans has abandoned its plans to ban pornography from its site, less than a week after they claimed they would be making the change in order to comply with the policies of their banking partners.

Their announcement to ban adult content last week had caused much uproar in the adult content creation community, with many sex workers feeling like they were being unfairly persecuted by the UK-based platform. However, after listening to the reaction from the community, and after supposedly ironing out some difficulties with their banking partnets, an OnlyFans spokesman said that they no longer had plans to force the changes in the near future.

The proposed changes had caused much concern amongst creators, many of whom rely on income from OnlyFans subscriptions as their main or sole income, so this reversal to go ahead with the changes will be welcomed by so many in the community.

There had been talks amongst the adult community that OnlyFans has been trying to re-brand itself in recent times, with a whole host of celebrities and ‘family-friendly’ creators joining the platform recently, serving up all sorts of content from fitness videos to cooking tutorials.

However, with over 2 million creators, and 130 million registered users worldwise, it is fair to say that the majority of the content on the platform is of the adult variery, and it appears the reaction they got to their initial announcement must have made them realise just how important the adult community is to their business.

However, you do have to wonder if they do still have a long term plan to change their image and move away from the adult industry completely. Their most recent statement did say, to be specific, that they had ‘SUSPENDED’ plans to go ahead with the policy change, so should we read too much into the use of the word ‘suspended’? It could possibly indicate that they will look to implement some sort of changes in the future?

We’d have definitely preferred them to have phrased it as they’d permanently abandoned the plans, but at least it’s good news for now!
